Updates for January 22

Swimming this Saturday continues at Dick Nichols pool – a beautiful 8-lane pool in Southwest Austin (map here). Remember to please try to arrive 10-15 minutes EARLY so everyone can begin the workout together at 8:30 IN THE POOL to make most use of the pool rental time. Give yourself plenty of time to drive there and park as well.

Joining us this class are 8 new mermaids (see list below). Veterans please welcome them and give them an extra boost of encouragement.Special thanks to those of you who recruited new friends to join the mermaid program – Kaz, Kathy, Val.

2010 swimming updates

The first Women First swim class of 2010 may have been a bit chilly to start, but the sun came out and the water was warm, with lots of room for everyone in the new 8 lane Dick Nichols pool. Coach Sara helped the newbies, while guest Assistant coach Huddie Murray (a veteran coach of many swim teams) put the veterans through the 20x 100 workout for 2010.

And with the deeper pool, mermaids were able to enjoy the joys of thigh burning Vertical Kicking!! Coach Sara captured the mermaids in action with this photo.

Because the Balcones Pool is still closed, Coach Sara will not be hosting the Tues Happy Hour swim there, but we encourage you to do a “Weekly Workout” on your own. There are a few samples on the website to recommend: Maybe the Swim Golf workout will appeal! Or one of the others I’ve designed: Beginner Workout or Advanced Workout. Coach Sara and Coach Sarah look forward to seeing you on deck this Saturday at Dick Nichols again.

Temporary Change of Pools

Mermaids,
 
The warmer weather is back so the Women First swim program will re-commence this Saturday at 8:30-9:30 am. However, we have been thrown another change for the next couple weeks — Balcones Neighborhood Pool has been closed for repainting!
 
Though not ideal, the City has thankfully offered us another pool until Balcones is back — Dick Nichols Pool in Southwest Austin (right off of South Mopac which should be easy to access on a Sat morning — map here).
 
I will keep everyone posted on the update.

Jan 9 class cancelled

Tomorrow’s swim class (Saturday Jan 9) will be cancelled due to the expected below 32 temperatures. Coach Sara and I apologize for the late notice.

For those of you who are diehard Saturday morning swimmers, I was informed that Barton Springs is the only pool that the City doesn’t close when its below 32 and its at your own risk.

There will be a make up class announced later on.

Tuesday Happy Hour swims start again

Mermaids,
Coach Sara invites you to begin the new year with the mermaid happy hour swim! Weekly happy hour swims started this past Tuesday and will continue future Tuesdays at 6:30 pm at Balcones Neighborhood pool.

The cost of admission during the winter is $3. Coach Sara will be joining you in the water and getting in her own workout! If you have swimming related questions please keep them for class or email Coach Sara as this is not intended to be an instructional swim, but a social workout time.

If you get a chance, send Coach Sara a quick email to let her know on Tuesdays that you’ll be joining her.
