Testimonials

I really loved the session. Tate is clear, patient and encouraging. I feel so relieved to finally have a direction to be a better swimmer. I am definitely looking forward to swimming in the morning. — Lisa Whitson

The workouts have been great. Both Sara and Rachel are great coaches. I have learned so much and feel that I have improved my swimming. Rachel has really stepped up our endurance and has me swimming more yards than I would on my own. — Colleen Cunningham

Thank you for a great series…I always take away a couple of techniques that actually get incorporated into my swimming. And the training made me feel stronger, which I love. — Jane Cravey

I love this class and I hope it continues! Our coaches are great and I look forward to Saturdays when I get to swim with “the girls”. It really amazes me that I actually enjoy and look forward to swimming. Swimming was never a sport that I considered trying. I remember when I first joined the class I’d feel a slight panic when Sara would tell us to do a 200 warmup. Finishing 100 was so hard for me. Last week it hit me that Rachel gave us a 500 warmup and I didn’t flinch!
I’ve always been a soccer player and a runner. Knee pain left me half jogging the run portion of Tris. Cycling is fun, but it takes so much work to get all the gear together and find a decent stretch of road where you can ride without traffic signals and too much traffic.
I love that our swim workouts leave me feeling the way I did when I finished a long run on the weekends. I feel happy tired and I love it. — Veronica Hernandez

Tate is a terrific coach! She knows just how to encourage and to provide constructive drill work. I have really enjoyed having her as my coach. I have truly enjoyed the swim lessons! Rachel keeps an eye on my progress, commenting on things that she notices – which I greatly appreciate! Both coaches are terrific! I have learned SO much and have really improved my technique. — Kristin Gibson

Being overweight and having a touchy back, running is not an option for me at this point. I’m so glad that my coworker told me about this swimming program. My goal is to lose weight and run again. Swimming really helps me get a good aerobic workout with much less stress on joints. And I love the water and supportive coaches. I’m so glad that Lisa started this program! — Virginia Pfeifle

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this session. The coaches were wonderful and I felt that they did a great job working with everyone on all levels. I have not gone to a ‘structured’ swim in a while and so it was nice to be a part of a team like environment with supportive coaches. Swimming is my favourite form of exercise, as well as relaxation. Being able to find a group of women to swim with has been a great experience and an important part of my transition into the Austin area.
Sylvan June

Because of this swim group and the coaches, I was able to achieve a personal best on my swim in this years Danskin. I am not a morning person, but I found myself looking forward to meeting at the pool on Saturday mornings, no matter the weather.
Donna Di Carlo

Thanks for having such a wonderfully exhilarating and strong program!

Thanks so much for the video analysis feedback. I have been working on some of these issues with coach Rachel and will keep trying to improve. I really love this program so much, and Sara has really kept me going since I first started and had a hard time even just finishing a length! I appreciate all you and Sara do for us. — Lisa Paulson

I wanted to let you know that I improved dramatically by taking the class and I think it made a huge difference in how I did in the triathlon. I wanted to thank you, Sara, and all the coaches. I am sooooo happy that I joined the mermaids. — Pam Spann

I had a blast and this class has definitely given me the basics I needed to start swimming for exercise. I will continue to spread the word on your wonderful program. My back pain is gone which was the reason I went to your class in the first place. Thank you for introducing me to swimming. The coaches ran the classes efficiently and they inspired me to work hard. — Les Dase

Before I began this class, my last swim class was in 3rd grade. I was a little nervous at first, but Sara, the instructor, is amazing. She is very good at describing strokes and the best way to implement them. Sara is patient and kind as she describes what needs to be changed so that I can be a better swimmer. Under her watchful eye, I have already begun to improve. Thanks so much! I will definitely be returning to the class. — Anna Scott

The Swim program is an amazing class for swimmers of all abilities. I was nervous before attending the first class because I had not swam in over 7 months but everyone in the group is nice and welcoming. They made me feel more comfortable and not afraid of the unexpected. The drills in the program really help you focus and improve on technique. I recommend this program to swimmers of all abilities and am looking forward to more swims in the future.
Lisa Bonilla

I really enjoy the class and am very happy that you have continued to offer it throughout the years. You have inspired me and continue to do so. Instead of thinking, “I have to exercie today”, it’s, “I get to exercise today.” Joyce LaBaw

I would definitely be interested in a future swim class.  The class helps me push myself and brush up on drills which I need.  Thanks for inspiring us! Jean Hagood

Your Saturday morning swim program is one of the best, friendliest, most efficient training programs I have ever done.  Based on my experience in the swim program, I was looking forward to participating in your more comprehensive tri training program in the future.  … your efficient and effective use of our training and instructional time and the fun, humor and sensitivity you convey in the activities.  Thanks for all that you have done for women athletes in Austin! Elizabeth Colvin

I have learned so much from your program; I can’t even express how much of a better swimmer I have become.  There are so many things that I learned.  To start, I learned how to relax in the pool (something that had been hard for me to accomplish before your class).  I also learned how to be efficient swimmer.  I understand why it is important to count my strokes and how to decrease my stroke count by being in my streamline (ready) position. I now understand why balance is an essential part of swimming.

The drills, although at times tough, have helped so much.  I especially liked the last class when we did several drills.  It helps when you change things up during class.  I never got bored! Thank you so much. — Michelle Doty

I’m so happy to have found a class that is geared to training for triathlons, but is women only and accepting of people of all abilities.  I really feel like I have gained enormous amounts of confidence in swimming in open water, because of the technique that Lisa taught- and because of her confidence in us, her students. — Judy Shipway

The program was suggested to me by a friend. When I started the program I was pretty scared to swim with my face in the water. I did the Danskin last year and did the side stroke and I was not comfortable in the open water. I will be doing my first open water event this weekend on June 4. I am so much stronger now than when I began the classes and more confident in my swimming. Now I will see how I do in the open water. I can’t thank you all enough for helping me through my fears. I can now actually say I am enjoying my swimming and look forward to the pool. I have already recommended the classes to several of my friends, family and clients. —  Kris Sorenson-Hyatt

I finished my first triathlon and much thanks goes to you for your help with the swimming portion.  I would never have been able to finish the swimming if it weren’t for your help and encouragement.   I really need to continue to improve so I was wanting to sign up for the 10 week summer course. I’m so happy to have found a class that is geared to training for triathlons, but is women only and accepting of people of all abilities.  I really feel like I have gained enormous amounts of confidence in swimming in open water, because of the technique that Lisa taught- and because of her confidence in us, her students. — Kathy Carr

When I started Lisa’s program, I was barely able to swim 25 meters without gasping for air – and given that I had committed to Danskin triathlon in 12 weeks, I really needed some help.  At the end of the spring program, I was able to complete my first Danskin race – and now will be swimming in a one-mile open water swim this year.  By learning drills to improve my stroke and structured workouts to improve my endurance, swimming has gone from being the “dreaded” portion of the triathlon to my best event.  — Carol Lynn Langer

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.  I  LOVE  your swimming program and all the positive attitudes and anticipate doing it for many sessions to come. Sara’s classes are just great.  She is so energetic and encouraging and knows just how far to push (and then some). — Sarah Pruiett

This is a great program.  I learned so much and the coaches were excellent! They actually took the time to watch and advise.  The attention we mermaids received is unlike any other swim class I’ve taken!  Also, I’ve enjoyed your newsletter.  Very informative!  Thank you! — Christi Lockhart

I would recommend this program for any level athlete.

The coaches are always willing to cater to your individual needs. It is a great size and takes place in a nice pool in a central location. You always feel like you got a great workout, it is well worth the money! I have been swimming competitively since I was 10 and this is the best class I have ever been in. Again, I would recommend this class to anyone wanted a great workout in a structured but relaxed and friendly atmosphere! — Merete Thune
